Iddi Amin’s home now tourist attracction

Koboko, the home district of Uganda’s former president, Iddi Amin and former Uganda Vice President, Mustafa Adrisi is now a tourist attraaction.

The name Koboko is derived from the Kakwa (tribe of people) name ‘kuwo a’buko which means they were massively killed. The name came after a hill in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo erupted and killed hundreds of Kakwa people.

But when the European colonialists came to Uganda, they could not pronounce the name Kuwo a’buko so they renamed the area Koboko. Kakwa people are found in South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

During the war that brought Museveni to power, Koboko was a battle field. Many buildings were destroyed. But the district has started becoming a tourist attraction as it has started regaining its former glory.
