Police: Terrorists were behind Bank of Uganda fire

Police suspects that the Thursday afternoon fire on the western wing of the Bank of Uganda offices could be an act of terrorism or arsonists. The offices and stores at Bank of Uganda that had been burnt are near to the basement of Bank of Uganda, which is the service area of the Bank.

Police sources have told us this morning that it seems some elements of Al Shabaab terrorists, or representatives of negative elements in South Sudan, ADF, or opposition had lured someone working in the bank to burn the institution. “But we are still investigating it,” the police sources said. The police sources add that if it was not an act of arsonists or terrorists, there was no way the fire incident could have occurred at Bank of Uganda.

Bank of Uganda was saved from being fully burnt by the immediate steps the police and the bank workers took. The police sources suspects that may be the arsonists or terrorists wanted to burn Uganda’s economy to punish President Museveni and Uganda at large for having deployed troops in Somalia and South Sudan without the consent of indigenous people there. Hassan Kihanda, the police deputy director of Fire and Rescue Services says police is still investigating the cause of the Bank of Uganda fire.
