Women activists in Uganda have revealed how men rape them in offices, bars and toilets. The women, who had kept this as a secret for so long on Monday launched a nationwide campaign against sexual harassment organized under the National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU). The campaign is supported by the Dutch government and supported through the Netherlands Wage Indicator Foundation (NWIF).
The one-year sexual campaign aims at creating awareness among employers and employees about sexual harassment at workplace according to Prof. Sylvia Tamale, from Makerere University. Tamale underlines the need for a reporting mechanism at workplaces where cases can be reported without fear.
Tamale attributes the high number of cases of sexual harassment to the patriarch system – where men dominate everything and they only look at women as sexual objects.
