Uganda traders commend UPDF for fighting South Sudan rebels

 

 

 

The Uganda traders’ have commended Uganda army, UPDF for fighting South Sudan rebels, saying that the Uganda army presence in Sudan has protected Uganda’s business interests.

 

Ugandan traders have counted losses in billions of shillings as the movement of their merchandise was halted due to insecurity in South Sudan.

The chairperson of Uganda Manufacturer’s Association (UMA) Amos Nzeyi says Ugandan traders have taken advantage of the war in South Sudan to plant food crops that will be sold to South Sudan once the war ends.
South Sudan is one of Uganda’s biggest markets for agriculture and manufactured commodities. The UPDF presence in Sudan has stabilised a “completely hopeless situation in South Sudan.”

The State minister of Uganda for investment Gabriel Ajedra says Uganda has lost close to over 2 billion shillings since war broke out in South Sudan between the government and rebels loyal to former vice-president, Dr. Riek Machar.
