UNEB increases examination registration fees

Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) has increased by 5 per cent the examination registration fees for Primary Seven, Senior Four and Senior Six classes.

Under the outgoing old registration fees structure, Primary Seven candidates are paying 14,000 Uganda shillings, Senior Four 80,000 Uganda shillings and 85,000 Uganda shillings for Senior Six. The old structure has been operational since 2009.

However, despite the well laid up registration fees structure at UNEB, many schools, especially privately-owned schools in Uganda, are charging candidates highly. The outgoing Uneb general secretary Mathew Bukenya says UNEB submitted the new fees changes to the minister for approval to increase.

He says Uneb sources billions of Uganda shillings from registration fees and all this money is met by the parents, guardians, some students, charity organisations and churches/mosques.

Bukenya says the current fees structure paid by UNEB candidates is not enough for setting, marking and processing the examinations.
