Court blocks Kampala Lord Mayor elections

Hopes are high that the court will stop the Electoral Commission from organizing the Kampala Mayoral by-election to replace embattled Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago.

Lukwago wants the election of a new lord mayor stopped because he thinks he is still the Lord Mayor of Kampala and any attempt to fill the position of Lord Mayor of Kampala is illegal.

The embattled Lord Mayor is represented by Abdu Katuntu. Katuntu confirmed that Lukwago filed an interim injunction in the High Court.

The position of the Kampala Lord Mayor of Kampala fell vacant recently following the controversial impeachment of Lukwago.

The electoral commission released a programme last week which programme indicated that the nominations of the candidates to contest for Lord Mayor will take place in Kampala between March 31 and April 1.
