World Bank warns Ugandans on tobbaco use

 

The World Bank has announced that for every 2,565 shillings Uganda government receives from the tobacco sales, the ministry of health in Uganda parts with 7, 695 shillings in treating tobacco-related illnesses such as lung cancer.

The World Health Organisation reports on tobbaco smoking indicates that on average 37 people in Uganda die daily due to tobacco or shisha related illness.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics also concur with the World Health Organisation that the number of young men who smoke in Uganda has increased from 12 in every 100 (2001 figure) to 19 in every 100 (2011) young men.
Dr Chris Baryomunsi, the Member of Parliament for Kinkizi East, recently tabled a Bill in Uganda Parliament that seeks to control tobacco use. Uganda is currently not doing well on tobacco control according to Dr Chris Baryomunsi.
