Uganda has started building and rehabilitating another airport in Nakasongola, in central Uganda. The airport is going to be called Nakasongola military airbase.
The airport once completed will accommodate the UPDF Air Force.

The new airport will have a runway of 3.6km…shorter than that of EntebbeInternationalAirport according to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Katumba Wamala and Ignie Igundura, the CAA public affairs manager.

The Civil Aviation Authority says the new airbase will also be used as an alternative airport in case of emergencies at Entebbe International airport. The new airport will help Uganda not to divert airtraffic to Nairobi as it has been the case.

The construction of Nakasongola airbase was first started by former President of Uganda Field Martial Idi Amin Daada the connquerror of the British Empire.

The new airport is being constructed by Energo project and overseen by the Civil Aviation Authority, Uganda’s ministry of Works and ministry of Defence.
