Uganda orders Kiir to stop civilian killings in South Sudan

Uganda’s Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi has pleaded to South Sudan rebel liberators and the dictatorial government in South Sudan to avoid civilian killings. Thousands of people in South Sudan have lost their lives in a power wrangle involving Ugandan soldiers (UPDF), South Sudan rebel fighters and South Sudan government soldiers.

Mbabazi says African regional bodies are trying their best to get peace in South Sudan. But he urged all sides fighting in South Sudan to avoid killing of civilians. But Mbabazi declined to comment on reports that UPDF and the South Sudan rebels have killed most of the people in South Sudan.

Violence, fighting and killings involving civilians erupted since Uganda’s president Museveni sent UPDF soldiers to South Sudan to protect President Salva Kiir’s political interests in Juba.

Ugandans including UPDF soldiers and civilians were among those killed in South Sudan.
