Types of malaria parasite

 

There are four (4) common malaria parasite species that can be detected. These are: plasmodium, falciparum which causes the most severe form of malaria, plasmodium malariae, ovale and vivax.

Plasmodium vivax and ovale, if not treated early enough enough, appropriately have the ability to take vacations in body sites like the liver and resurface later, causing a fresh malaria infection.

Also many people attribute common disease symptoms such as fever, headache and general body weakness to malaria. Without a comfirmed diagnosis of Malaria, people rush to treat themselves with antimalarials drugs of their choice. Others walk into pharmacies or drug shops to purchase the antimalarials drugs over the counter.

But who says that malaria is the only disease in Africa that brings about the above symptoms? So please peole instead of walking into pharmacies to buy antimalaria drugs without a diagnosis, try to consider going to the laboratory to have some tests run?

This test is not only reveals the prescence or abscence of the malaria parasite in your body blood, but also shows you the parasite species and the extent to which the parasite have multiplied in the body. This information is vital for the physicians as they make a diagnosis and prescribe medication.

The microscopic laboratory test for malaria also enables you or your doctors to administer the most appropriate treatment for the parasite detected and to monitor the progress of malaria as well as the effectiveness of the admnistered medication.
