Government to spend ushs4.46 trillions in 4 months

The Parliament of Uganda on Thursday approved the Vote on Account authorizing Uganda government to spend over 4.46 trillion shillings during the first four months of the new financial year 2014/2015.

The Vote on Account is a fraction of the National Budget that is approved by the Parliament in order to allow the government to spend on its activities before the final budget is finnaly approved.

The vote on account is one third of the total budget and covers the months of July, August, September and October 2014. But the Government had initially requested Parliament to approve 7 trillion shillings. However the parliament rejected the request on Tuesday, when the MPs realized that it was above 30% of the total National Budget. The request was above what is provided by the law.

The Minister of State for Finance Aston Kajara says that it is not likely that the National Budget will be approved by the end of the current 2013/2014 financial year. Therefore it was necessary that the President authorizes the issue of monies from the Consolidated Fund for the purposes of meeting government expenditures.
