Courts in Uganda closed

The government of Uganda has today closed courts of Judicature and directed all magistrates and judges to go on vacation for one month.

The judges and magistrates are expected to use this period to prepare for the opening of the new session that will end in December.

During the vacation, only cases of civil nature will not be heard but those of criminal nature are heard. The vacation runs from July 15 to August 15.

The Uganda Judiciary’s assistant public relations officer, Araali Muhirwa confirmed the development and said the judges and magistrates shall use this period to write their pending judgments.

Ugandan courts inherited the vacation from the colonial judges who used to use this period to travel back to UK to visit their families.
