Bukedi sub-region NRM leaders have threatened to block presidential hopeful Amama Mbabazi’s tour of the region in his effort to carry out consultations to solicit support. Mbabazi has already issued a roadmap of his tour and that the Elgon sub-region will be his main focus  for his tours across the country before going to Bukedi and other regions.

However, addressing the press at Speke Hotel in Kampala , Bukedi NRM chairmen threatened to halt  his rallies accusing him of breaking the party’s rules and regulations. The group led by NRM chairperson Palisa district  Isa Talighola said that much as Mbabazi has a right to contest for presidency, he should follow the NRM rules if he wants to stand within the framework of the party. He says as members of NRM in Bukedi sub region, they have been following closely the political developments in their  party and therefore reaffirm their support to the Kyankwanzi resolution declaring Museveni as their  sole candidate and presidential flag bearer in the forthcoming general elections.

The chairmen went on to say that as a region, they distance themselves from any form of what they called premature electioneering and revolutionary methods of work, as exhibited by Amama Mbabazi, of traversing the country allegedly campaigning for the presidential NRM flag bearer. The group claimed that as a region, it still pays allegiance to Museveni NRM party chairman and are contented with the way he is steering the country’s affairs.

The Bukedi region comprises districts of Tororo, Busia, Butaleja, Palisa, Kibuku and Budaka.
