Toure scored with two shots from outside the area in the ninth and 24th minute as the visitors led the match from the start. Captain Vincent Kompany headed in the third in the 59th minute signaling that Manuel Pellegrini’s side is a serious contender for the league title after surrendering the crown to Chelsea last season.

With City’s new signing Raheem Sterling putting up a good shift in the game, it just shows the good things to come for the citizens this season,

The win propelled City to go on top of the standings after the opening weekend with the most dominant and convincing display they put out.

After champions Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw against swansea, Arsenal losing to Westham and Manchester United and Liverpool both earning scrappy 1-0 wins, this was the peak of the first round.

Much more will be seen when a fully fit Sergio Aguero is back in the Team and the expected arrival of kevin de Bryne from Wolfsburg.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini recognized how overcoming last season’s woes will help the Ivory Coast star, Yaya Toure to shine in the Barclays Premier League again.

He said: “I always said last season it was a strange season for Yaya, he started with a lot of problems, the death of his brother, his agents. I think he was not focused on what he had to do last year.

“We spoke before the start of the season and I am very sure we will see the Yaya from two years ago. He is a very important player for us.

“I don’t think Yaya deserved the amount of criticism he received last season. It was not his best season but he did not play so, so bad like everyone said.

“He is an important player for us. It is very difficult for a player when you have so many problems.

West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis admitted he was to blame for West Brom’s 3-0 defeat. Pulis acknowledged that starting Saido Berahino and debutant Rickie Lambert up front was a wrong move

“I take responsibility for the way we set up,” he told Sky Sports.

“The fact we had Saido and Rickie, who played really well together, pulled us away from what we should do. I said to them afterwards I’d take responsibility for that one.

“If I had my time again, I’d probably do it differently, but that’s management.

“There are certain things we have to stick by and certain principles we have to work alongside to get results at this level and I’ve gone away from that a little bit tonight.

“I was really pleased with the way they worked, they worked really hard

“We created quite a few chances as well but we were far too loose as a team. You have to give credit to City. They were the better team tonight.”

The 3-0 win against West Bromwich Albion saw odds on Manchester City winning the Premier League being slashed with Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who were third favourites on the eve of the season now being the bookies’ top choice to win the title, with Chelsea and Arsenal both slipping down a place.

Manchester City is now 13/8, with Chelsea available at 15/8, Arsenal and Manchester United both available at around 5/1
