Government urges farmers to embrace agricultural insurance scheme.

Officials from the Agro Consortium who are promoting the Agricultural Insurance Scheme have begun sensitizing Coffee farmers about the importance of Insuring Coffee against drought.

The sensitization has begun with coffee farmers under the umbrella of National Union of Coffee Agribusiness and Farm Enterprises (NUCAFE) who are expected to pilot the Agricultural Insurance for Coffee against coffee.

The Agricultural insurance for coffee against drought is aimed at lessening the losses loses that Coffee farmers face as well as the economy when coffee is hit by droughts at the harvest is poor.
During the training held in today, Ssalongo Robert a farmer’s trainer in Coffee Insurance Scheme has explained the several benefits of this insurance scheme.

Ssalongo Robert further explained that unlike other insurance packages where people pay the premium from, there is no insurance against drought for coffee.He said government will contribute 50% of the premium insurance fees and the farmer will contribute the rest.
