Another market vendor dies in Kasubi

Another person has been confirmed dead following a stampede at Kasubi tombs on Friday morning.

The woman who died has been identified as Grace Nakanwagi a tomato seller at St. Balikudembe (Owino) Market.

On Friday Harriet Namudu – a tea vendor also at Owino market died.

The stampede occurred during the special prayers held at the tombs to mark the end of the week-long mourning after the destruction of the Buganda royal burial site.

The chairperson of Uganda Red Cross in charge of Kampala West, William Mukasa has said that the bodies of the deceased are still at Mulago hospital mortuary for a postmortem.

The site was gutted by fire last week and several stakeholders, including Buganda kingdom, have called for investigations into the cause of the fire.
