Arua diocese Bishop Sabino Ocan Odoki urges emulating of Uganda Martyrs

Hundreds of thousands of people today thronged the Namugongo Uganda Martyrs shrines to mark the Uganda Martyrs day.

Every 3rd June, people from different parts of the world and across Uganda go to Namugonfo to pay homage to the people who were killed for their faith.

Arua diocese Bishop Sabino Ocan Odoki who was the main celebrant urged all people who turned to be inspired by the courage, resilience and faithfulness of the Uganda Martyrs who gave up their life for the faith. This year’s celebrated at the Catholic shrine were led by Arua diocese.

Bishop Sabino said through their humble act of refusing to forsake their faith, the Uganda Martyrs had become heroes and made Uganda known worldwide.

Twenty two of the 24 Uganda Martyrs were burnt to death or butchered at the order of then Buganda King, Kabaka Mwanga after they disobeyed his authority and refused to renounce their newly found beliefs in Christianity.
