Commonwealth Secretary General Kamalesh Sharma to attend African Union Summit in Uganda

Commonwealth Secretary General Sharma KamaleshThe Secretary-General of the Commonwealth,  Kamalesh Sharma is scheduled to visit Uganda from 23 to 26 July 2010 to attend the 15th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union that is taking place at Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo.

A statement from the Commonwealth says that Sharma will be in Kampala to seek new avenues for meaningful engagement with its 19 member states in Africa.

It says the Secretary-General will take the opportunity to meet with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Jean Ping in the context of strengthening these engagements

 

Sharma will also hold discussions with a number of African Heads of Government on the current work of the Commonwealth as well as on contemporary matters of regional and global importance to to the Commonwealth and the African Union.

 The African Union Summit is being held under the theme ‘Maternal, Infant and Child Health and Development’.
