Kaliro Market vendor’s protest over presidential initiative program money

The vendors in Kaliro market have protested the conditions put in place to access money from the presidential initiative program PIP to boost their business. During his 2011 re-election campaign in Kaliro president Yoweri Museveni promised to dispatch 100 million shillings to help market vendors boost their business.

Recently state house dispatched 38.8 million of the 100 million shillings to Kaliro town savings and credit cooperative organization for distribution to the vendors for the management of Kaliro town SACCO informed the vendors about the money.

This did not go down well with over 100 vendors operating in Kaliro market who demand to know why they are being forced toaccess the money yet some of them are not members in the SACCO.

The vendors stormed kaliro central police station to protest the manner in which the money is being distributed decided to camp there vowing not to quite until Kaliro district commander Joram Mwebaze intervenes into the matter.
