speakers orders probe into bribes for MPS.

The speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga has today been forced to direct the house committee on rules and discipline to investigate allegations that several members of parliament are involved in soliciting for bribes to murder important house debates.

This comes after allegations reportedly made by Kyankwanzi woman MP Ann Maria Nankabirwa last Thursday during NRM caucus meeting suggesting that several MPs on Umeme probe had been bribed with shs5m each to bend the committee’s recommendations against Umeme and several top officials in energy ministry.

We have been informed that besides the Umeme bribery allegations, there are also allegations that some top leaders of parliament were allegedly bribed with shs500m recently to soften on matters of teachers’ salaries’ pay rise.

The decision to refer the matter of bribery to a probe committee came after Kadaga in her communication from the chair told members that bribery allegations had tainted the image of parliament.

Meanwhile parliament today paid a tribute to fallen former S. African president Nelson Madiba Mandela for his tireless efforts to promote unity, forgiveness, peace and reconciliation. The motion was moved by LoP Nandala Mafabi seconded by all MPs although cabinet never attended because the ministers are attending a cabinet retreat.
