Police teargas UGACOF workers

Police in Kampala on Wednesday tear gassed casual workers at UGACOF in Bweyogerere. The police accused the UGACOF workers of using their constitutional right to hold a sit down strike demanding for an increase in their salaries, honoraria and wages.
Although the cost of living in Kampala is too high, the management of UGACOF pays its workers only 90 Uganda shillings after carrying each bag of coffee from one place to another.
The managers of UGACOF instead of talking with the workers to stop the strike as they look into their grievances they ended up calling in the police who tear gassed the whole area.
Some workers told our reporters that for a person to earn more money need to carry a number of bags to get more money. The police also fired live bullets into the peaceful workers.
