Why rural schools perform poor in PLE?

Education and Sports minister Jessica Alupo says that rural schools have continued to perform worse than their urban counterparts because there is a higher rate of absenteeism of both students and pupils and teachers in many rural schools.

The minister says some schools in remote areas of Uganda but not all rural schools are short of the necessary facilities to aid instruction and learning as compared to schools in urban areas such as Kampala and Wakiso.

To improve performance in rural schools, the minister says the education ministry is planning to introduce interventions at both school and district level.

“The government plans to motivate teachers through timely payment of salaries, and strengthening school inspections and monitoring,” she says.
