Five opposition MPs have been suspended by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebeca Kadaga over ‘gross misconduct.’

The suspended MPs belong to opposition Forum for Democratic Change.

They are Geoffrey Ekanya of Tororo Municipality and Odonga Otto of Arur County.

Others are MP Beatrice Anywar, Nyeko Ocula and Christine Bako.

Kadaga has barred the suspended MPs from visiting the chamber of Parliament, car park and committee rooms among other areas.

Rule 75 of the Parliamentary rules of procedure allows the speaker or deputy speaker to suspend MP(s).

The suspended MPs have been accused of disrupting work at Parliament on Tuesday this week.

The MPs mentioned allegedly threatened to lift the deputy speaker from her seat and take over the house.

They accused Kadaga of deferring the motion on the shortcomings to the voter registration exercise and amendments to electoral laws.

The Deputy speaker instead favoured a motion to discuss a report on the performance of a fisheries project.
