The Vice President of Uganda, Prof. Gilbert Balibaseka Bukenya has called upon youth in Africa to develop a culture of hard work if they are to assured of a better future.

In a speech read for him by James Baba, the Minister of State in the Vice President’s Office, Prof. Bukenya urged the youth to avoid wasting time and to take advantage of all opportunities available to them.

He was addressing youth at the Africa Youth Forum taking place in Uganda at the Imperial Botanical beach Hotel in Entebbe.  Organized by the African Union in collaboration with the UNICEF, the Africa Youth Forum t attracted about 140 youths from 37 Africa countries.

The three-day forum which ended on Monday was held under the theme “maternal, infant and child health, African youths call for action”.

The outcome of the meeting will be presented to the African leaders who will meet from July 25 to 27 at the 15th African Union (AU) summit to be held in Kampala at the Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo.

According to UNICEF, the youth form the majority of Africa’s population, with those under the age of 25 representing 62% of the overall African population.
