Uganda opposition demands into immediate investigation of alleged army killings in Karamoja

The Democratic Party has called upon the government to quickly move and investigate the allegations of killings carried out on civilians in the process of disarming the Karamojongs.

This comes after the Member of Parliament for Pokot, Francis Kiyonga accused the army of committing atrocities against civilians in Karamoja spotting Lt. Col Muhoozi as having played a part in the killings. Muhoozi, a son to President Museveni and the army have since denied the alleged killings.

The Publicity Secretary of DP, Emmanuel Lutukumoi Mwaka has told journalists at the Democratic Party offices that rather than denying the accusations, the government should investigate and bring to book the perpetuators of those killings.

Mwaka says since the Uganda Human Rights Commission has not dismissed but rather embraced the allegations of the legislator, the government has no right to take these allegations as lightly as it has done.

This is was not the first time that the MP was having clashes with the army as on a number of occasions in the past, he has clashed with the army over the disarmament process in Karamoja.

Similarly this is not the first time that the government is being accused of foul play in the disarmament process since last month the former Spy Chief, David Pulkol accused the government of mishandling the disarmament process in the sub- region but which the government dismissed as falsehoods.
