The FDC Vice President Salam Musumba says the prisons of Uganda are fond of torturing the suspects and some prisoners have died in prisons due to torture. She also doubts if Besigye has been taken to the prison or to the ‘so called’ safe houses.

Musumba has asked government to unconditionally release Dr. Besigye because she sees no reason a man of Besigye’s caliber being arrested over trivial issues.

Col. Besigye was arrested on April 21 at Mulago while he was on his walk to work protest against the increasing prices of basic commodities like food and fuel and was sent to Nakasongola prison to be produced in court on April 27.

But Frank Baine, the Spokesperson of the Uganda Prisons says Besigye is currently being held at Nakasongola prison and he is safe.

The leader of opposition in parliament, Prof. Ogenga Latigo and Kitgum woman MP, Beatrace Anywar confirmed on that they had visited Besigye and DP President Nobert Mao in Nakasongola prison and found them in good condition. Anywar says the prison in Nakasongola is cleaner that Luzira, and the two were okay, save for Besigye who had flue.
