Lawyers’ strike paralyses court business in Uganda

A three-day sit down strike by lawyers in Uganda, which started on Wednesday has disrupted business at Courts.

Court rooms around Kampala have not had any lawyer to enable cases proceed, since hundreds of Uganda Law Society members stormed the High Court premises in Kampala to challenged the continued interference in judicial process by the State.

Among the suspects who had to appear before court for trial today is a Kenyan student of Kampala International University Jane Ndichu Nyiha who is alleged to have murdered her boyfriend David Musungu.

Last month, hearing of her case flopped after prisons officials failed to ferry inmates to court, due to the walk to work protests that rocked the city.
