Opposition say Museveni needs dialogue for publicity

The leaders of the opposition have insisted they will not meet President Museveni for a dialogue as requested by him because the President wants to use the meeting for international pablicity.

A staunch member of the Activists for Change (A4C) pressure group, Kivumbi Muwanga says that all dialogues that have been organized by President Museveni before have yielded nothing and he does not think this dialogue will be special.

Kivumbi says that Museveni wants to show the international world that he is democratic but there is nothing positive he will do after the dialogue. Kivumbi adds that the opposition is not ready to be bribed by mere cups of tea by the President.

Kivumbi says that any opposition party leader who will meet the president will be graded a traitor.

President Museveni, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Forum for Dialogue (IPOD) has invited the leaders of the political parties to discuss the causes of the one month protests that started in April which have cost lives of people and others injured. IPOD is an association of all political parties represented in parliament.

The opposition leaders say that there is no need for a meeting about the on-going demonstrations because the President knows the cause of the protests and the citizens want the government to act appropriately.

The opposition have said that the only road map to the dialogue is the President to sack the Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura, the Internal Affairs Minister Kirunda Kivejinja and the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Grace Turyagumanawe.

The Opposition also ask the government to prosecute the security personnel who directly killed and brutally assaulted protesters and release without condition the people who were arrested in the demonstrations.
