The opposition parties had earlier announced they will hold a rally at the Constitutional Square in the heart of Kampala after their scheduled walk to work protest on Monday.

Democratic party President Nobert Mao who made the announcement on behalf of the opposition said the venue holds huge historical significant and will be ideal for them.

But Fred Kiyaga, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in Charge of Operations told journalists on Sunday that no rally will be allowed at Constitutional Square, arguing that such a rally would disrupt peace order and businesses in the city centre. He called upon the opposition to seek for an alternative venue.
