Government asked to reduce poverty in northern Uganda

The local leaders of northern Uganda region have asked government to put more emphasis on poverty eradication in the region.

The Gulu district woman Member of Parliament Acan Aol says that since the containment of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) wars of Joseph Kony, the government has reduced funding to northern Uganda hence the escalating poverty among the people of in the area.

Kitara Makmot, the Gulu district Vice Chairman says that poverty is on the increase in the region and attributes it to the reduced donors and government funding of some projects.

Kitara adds that people who left the camps to settle on their lands are becoming more miserable than they were in the camps, putting them in a regrettable situation.

He says that a combination of poverty and famine will cause deaths in northern Uganda very soon  if the government does not intervene before the situation stretches that far.
