Dr. Besigye causes reshuffles and suspensions in the armed forces

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party President, Dr. Kiiza Besigye has shaken the Uganda’s armed forces.

Since Besigye started his walk to work campaigns a lot of transfers and suspensions have been observed in both army and police departments.

The recent suspensions in police being that of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Francis Rwego and the commander of Makindye Miltary Police barracks, Lt. Col. Michael Kabango this week.

The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura on orders of the Internal Affairs Minister, Hajj Kirunda Kivejinja, has suspended Francis Rwego for failing to control Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s procession from Entebbe Airport to Kampala on May 12 when he (Besigye) came from a medical trip from Kenya.

In the army, the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, has transferred the commander of Makindye Miltary Police barracks, Lt. Col. Michael Kabango to Kabamba Miltary Training School for allegedly failing to control the same Besigye’s procession and other walk to work protests.

Rwego case has been set for investigation headed by the former State Minister for Defense, Gen. Jeje Odong

On May 12 the FDC boss landed at Entebbe airport from the medical trip at Nairobi Hospital in Kenya and by coincidence it was the swearing-in day for President Museveni that had attracted various heads of state.

It is alleged that Besigye’s supporters who had covered the roads of Kampala pelted stones and other insults to convoys of the Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and DR. Congo President Joseph Kabila.
