Parliament concludes swearing in of new MPs

The Swearing in Ceremony for MPS of the 9th Parliament has ended today seeing over 118 MPS administering oath before the clerk to Parliament Aeneas Tandekwire.

This brought the total number of new members to 374 with only one member of Parliament for Gomba County Rose Najemba who is said to be outside the Country on state duties.

Among those who have sworn in today include Budadiri west mp Nandala Mafabi, Alur county mp Samuel Odonga otto, west budama MP Fox Odoi,  jocob Oualanya all vying for the seat of deputy speaker and speaker of parliament. The former speaker of parliament Edward Sekandi was also among those who have been sworn in today to uphold and protect the constitution of the republic of Uganda. He said that his main challenge as speaker was that mps failed to distinguish between individual merit and operating under a multiparty system.

After taking oath Nandala Mafabi vying for the post of the speaker appealed to the chief justice Benjamin Odochi who will preside over the election of the speaker tomorrow to follow the rules and not allow any manipulation from any side. He says the parliamentary rules of procedure should not be changed from secret voting to open voting. Track

Aluur county mp Odonga otto also vying for the position of deputy speaker says if elected the first thing he will do is to lobby fellow members to restore the presidential term limit that was removed by the 7th parliament.
