Opposition sets special fund for walk to work victims

The opposition political parties under the Activists for change (A4C) umbrella have set a special fund to assist all the victims of the walk to work demonstrations.

The A4C Coordinator, Mathias Mpuuga told the journalists in Kampala that those being hospitalized, and the bereaved families as a result of the walk to work demonstrations will be given some assistance.

He says that the victims are heroes because they have been injured or died in the struggle to liberate the nation from the economic crisis.

Meanwhile, the Activists for Change leaders have improvised another method of demonstration that will work along side the walk to work demonstrations.

Mpuuga says that those people whose nature of work cannot allow them to walk such as drivers and riders will join the “Drive-Ride and Hoot” campaign.

He says that the people with disabilities who cannot walk and anyone who feels it is impossible to walk will bang a table, saucepan or any instrument that can produce noise to express their dissatisfaction with government for not addressing the escalating cost of living.

Mpuuga says that the new demonstration will start on Monday and drivers and riders will be required to start hooting at 5PM for five minutes.

However, the police spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba has warned those who will participate in the “Drive-Ride and Hoot” while in public places like roads or parks that they risk being arrested. She adds that the noise will be an inconvenience to other people and government will not accept that to happen.
