President Museveni appoints cabinet

After pressure from the opposition asking the President to censure the old regime and form a legitimate government, President Museveni has on May 24 appointed the Vice President and Prime Minister. The old government expired on May 12 when Museveni took an oath as a President for his fourth term that ends in 2016.

The President has appointed the former Speaker of the 8th Parliament Edward Sekandi as the Vice President and Amama Mbabzi as the Prime Minister.

Sekandi a professional lawyer replaces Professor Gilbert Bukenya Balibaseka who has been in the same office for 8 years while Amama Mbabazi the outgoing Security Minister displaces Prof. Apollo Nsibambi.

The appointments have taken place at State House in Entebbe in the National Resistance Movement caucus meeting and the appointees await for parliamentary confirmation.

On the program, the President is supposed to appoint the minister of finance and the attorney general.

Meanwhile other NRM party members and outgoing ministers are anxiously waiting for other ministerial appointments which will be made at a later date.
