URA warehouse rental fees too high

The Ugandan importers have decried the exorbitant rental fees for the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) bonded warehouses at the customs.

The car trader in Kampala, Badru Bogere says that keeping a saloon car costs an importer an average of 5000 shillings and a heavy truck is 15,000 shillings per day.

Bogere explains that if one is delayed for a month due to unavoidable circumstances finds it expensive as he is required to pay about 150,000 shillings or 450,000 shillings for a single saloon car or truck respectively. He adds that all those costs are extended to the customers hence reducing demand.

Bogere adds that at times the delay is caused by URA itself but the daily fee remains standing.

Importers particularly the car dealers have asked warehouses administrators to reduce on the fees.
