Opposition to launch “Free Uganda Now” campaign

The opposition parties have planned to launch a “Free Uganda Now” campaign against what they call bad governance of the National Resistance Movement Party.

The parties involved are the Democratic Party (DP), Social Development Party (SDP) People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and Suubi all being members of the Activists for Change (A4C). The A4C is famously known for the walk to work campaign that took a center stage in April.

The aggrieved parties where the Uganda’s main opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has excluded itself say that they will continue the demonstrations until government works on the prices of commodities and put right the rule of law in the country.

While addressing a press conference in Kampala, the SDP President and the coalition’s spokesperson, Michael Mabike said that a peaceful demonstration is a constitutional right that none has power to usurp. He adds that what they are doing is in accordance with the Acts of the constitution and they are informed of every Laws book segment.

The police have written to the leaders of the coalition to guarantee that the new campaign will be peaceful before they go ahead launching it.

The UPC Vice President, Joseph Bbosa says that police need to behave like a public force not bending to serve the interests of one party (NRM) as if they are specifically employed by the ruling party.

The Activists for Change Coordinator Mathis Mpuuga (Suubi) has insisted the demonstrations will go on without FDC party.
