Lira asks for iron sheets to renovate school

Formally internally displaced persons in Lira have rejected the proposal that the district administration to use 3000 Iron sheets meant for resettling them to renovate dilapidated schools.

The iron sheets were delivered by the office of the prime minister as part of the resettlement package of early IDPs who missed in the first distribution exercise.

Last week Ben Mwanguha Lira chief administrative officer (CAO) wrote to the office of the prime minister seeking permission to use about 3000 Iron sheets to renovate some schools in the district.

He listed the targeted schools that included Canon demonstration schools, Omito, St. Paul Achikoto and Akia.

In his letter dated 19th May addressed to the permanent secretary in the office of the Prime Minister Mwanguha expressed that Lira district suffered a catastrophe on April 24th 2011 leading to the destruction of several schools.

He says the schools are in every sorry state that can’t support effective learning and therefore what’s the commission to use IDPs sheets to renovate the schools.
