PDP Abed Bwanika condemns Opposition’s walk-out during the President’s state of the nation address

The People’s Development Party President, Dr. Abed Bwanika has blamed the opposition members of parliament for walking out while President Museveni was giving the state-of-the-nation address on June 7.

Bwanika, a former presidential candidate in the February 18, 2011 elections says that walking out in protest of someone’s speech is an archaic method of protest that has no impact in the modern world and on Museveni as a person.

Bwanika, the only opposition leader who attended the May 12th swearing-in ceremony of President Museveni, says that the MPs would have remained to listen to the President’s full statements for them to make informed reactions.

The opposition Members of Parliament lead by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Nandala Mafabi walked out of the conference hall when President Museveni hinted that himself and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party will ensure zero tolerance of corruption.

Mafabi told journalists that they could not listen to the trivial issues of Museveni. Mafabi added that for 25 years the President has been talking about zero tolerance of corruption the more it has increased as if he talks otherwise to his cabinet.

Reagan Okumu who also walked out says that the President has promoted people to big offices who have been involved in many corruption scandals like Amama Mbabazi (new Prime Minister) and expects people to listen to his ‘lies’.
