The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has said that it is high time information and communication technology improved to the standards of the United States or Singapore.

Rugunda made a comment after being handed over the ICT office from Agrey Awori at the ICT headquarters in Kampala.

Rugunda has taken office while a China government sponsored National Backbone Infrastructure (NBI) project is still under construction. He says that after the completion of NBI the costs of telecommunication and internet will reduce tremendously.

The minister commends the role ICT has played saying that it has narrowed the gap between the rich and the poor and has saved people a lot of money.

Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda is the former minister of foreign affairs.
