Ugandan judge Daniel David Ntege to chair Kenya post election violence appeal

The international criminal court has appointed a Ugandan judge to chair the appeal in which Kenya wants to six post election violence suspects tried in local courts.

Justice Daniel David Ntenda Sereko comprising the ICC president Philippe Kirsch and other members will sit on the committee.

The decision bench will see the fate of Kenya government bid to have the six post election violence suspects tried back home. Kenya filed their appeal under their own statue Article 82 1(a) after the pre-trial chamber of ICC ruled that courts in Kenya were not competent to handle the trial of the suspects.

They are financial minister Uhuru Kenyatta, eldorate north MP William Ruto, Tinderiti MP Henry Kosage, head of civil service Francis Muzahura post master general Hussein Ali and Radio presenter Joshua Arab shanku.

A statement on the ICC website saws justice Nseeko has represented defendants in criminal and civil cases superior and lower courts in Uganda.

It adds that between 1983-1984 justice Nsereko served as an expert consultant for the crime prevention and criminal justice branch of the UN centre for social development and humanitarian affairs.

Justice Nsereko holds a bachelors’ of law degree from the university of East Africa in Tanzania and master of laws (LLM) degree from New York University. 70 years old judge has vast experience in criminal law and procedure as a practitioner and academic.
