Condom shortage worries Katuna border post

Condoms have been reported to have run out of stock at Katuna boarder post raising fear of increasing HIV/AIDS infections in the busy boarder town.

Katuna boarder post has 21 public condom dispensers that are stocked daily for use by truck drivers, residents and commercial sexual workers. Transport workers union, amalgamated transport and general workers union are responsible for distributing the condoms in collaboration with ministry of health.

However the coordinator of amalgamated transport and general workers union Betty Anailo says the condoms ran out of stock one week ago. She attributed delays in supply by the ministry of health and increase demand from users.

Kabale district medical officer Dr. Patrick Tusiime says they have ordered for a new concealment of condoms from the ministry of health. He explained that Katuna is a very busy and active area that doesn’t need to stay even a single day without condoms.

The HIV/AIDS prevalence rate in Katuna stands at 11.2% compared to the read national average of 6.4%
