Uganda Government denies using UK money meant for poverty to buy jet

The government of Uganda has denied media reports that were released in the British daily mail newspaper that that sawed Uganda used British Aid meant to alleviate poverty to buy a 48 million dollar luxury jet for President Yoweri Museveni.

Britain daily mail news paper reported that prominent British politician Lord Ashicroft said he has uncovered the use of Aid money from Britain to buy the plane.

Britain donated about 113 million dollar to Uganda in 2008-2009. Ashicroft was quoted by the British daily mail says the UK needs to be careful before giving budgetary support to avoid extravagance such as this describing the expenditures as a joke.

But according to the presidential press secretary Tamale Mirundi has denied the allegation and said Uganda does not need British money to buy a presidential jet.

He says the money used to buy the jet was approved by Ugandan parliament. The jet was bought in 2008 amidst various criticisms from both the public and media who called it as unnecessary extravagance population leaving on a less than a dollar a day.
