Ugandan drivers to get international driving permits

The Ugandan government will start issuing international driving licenses to Ugandan drivers who cross the borders.

The Kampala Metropolitan area police spokesperson, Iddi Ibin Senkumbi told the journalists at the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kampala on June 20 that international licenses will reduce accidents on foreign lands as they will be given to those who will have shown competence in driving across the borders.

The development has come after the Southern Sudan accident that occurred when the two Ugandan buses rammed into each other on June 17 killing about 30 people and injuring about 70.

Senkumbi says that the Uganda police will ask their counterparts in the neighbouring countries to work together to train the drivers who cross the borders.

He has also asked the bus companies who operate in different countries to always have two drivers one driving up to the border and another one used to the country of destination to take over from there.
