Court dismisses Bukoto East elections petition on Florence Namayanja

The High Court has dismissed with costs a petition in which a voter was challenging the election of Florence Namayanja as the Member of Parliament for Bukoto East Constituency.

Francis Xavier Mugula sued Namayanja and the Electoral Commission over alleged several irregularities.

Namayanja beat former minister Alintuma Nsambu in the parliamentary race.

Mugula accused Namayanja of bribing voters with soap and money, uttering malicious statements against John Alintuma Nsambu, and the EC of failing to comply with the law.

Justice Elizabeth Musoke ruled that there was no evidence to prove the allegations.

The judge said the evidence of dishing out money, didn’t indicate that Namayanja had any knowledge on bribery.

Patrick Bahegane and John Mary Byamugisha represented the petitioner, while Lawrence Tumwesigye was for the EC.

Francis Katabarwa represented Namayanja.
