Government urged to follow up Ugandans jailed for drug trafficking

A member on the internal affairs committee and MP, Makindye West, Al Haji. Hussein Kyanjo has said there is need for the government of Uganda to hold talks with Iran and Afghanistan among other countries to settle or reduce on the punishment yet to be given or which was given to Ugandans who were caught trafficking illegal drugs into their countries.

Speaking to the MP on the gravity of the matter in and outside the country, Kyanjo states that he has seen a good number of Ugandans in those countries on charges of drug trafficking and are awaiting huge sentences.

There was concern by some MPs on whether the move will not be seen as if the government condones drug trafficking.

But Kyanjo insists the Ugandan government should hold talks with those governments to see to it that Ugandans who were arrested are brought back home to serve their respective sentences from home or else reduce on their punishments.
