MPs threaten to block Budget of Mulago Hospital

Parliament has vowed to block the budget of Mulago National Referral Hospital for failure to indicate concrete plans to improve the status of the hospital.

The hospital officials, led by Executive Director, Dr. BB Byarugaba, had appeared before the committee to defend its budget for this financial year.

Several MPs noted that the state of Mulago was appalling, with Serere Woman MP, Alice Alaso noting that the number of patients dying in Mulago had increased over the years due to neglect.

Kanungu East MP, Dr. Chris Baryomunsi said until Mulago sorts out issues of remuneration of its workers, especially interns and improve services, it’s budget would be halted.

This financial year, Mulago is expected to receive 58 billion shillings.
