RRU arrest Kenyan National over arms dealing

The Rapid Response Unit of Police is holding a Kenyan National on allegations of thuggery and cross boarder criminality.

Festus Mbwere Mutisha, a notorious criminal leader was arrested last week from Malaba while dealing in arms smuggling.

Police allege that early this month, Mbwere contacted a person in Uganda that he wanted and was ready to pay 1m shs and 2.5m shs for a pistol and an AK 47 rifle respectively.

The contact person informed Police which tracked Mutisha clearing his payments, put both the pistol and gun into a bag and on reaching Malaba, Police asked to search him but he declined.

Police however searched him and found him in possession of a fire arms and rounds of ammunitions.

On his arrest, Mutisha said he wanted to use the firearms for robbery in Kenya .

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi says according to information they have gathered, Mutisha was once arrested for the same crime in 2006 and sentenced to 14 yrs but appealed and was granted bail.

According to the law, Mutisha will be tried in Uganda since the offence was committed here and will be charged with unlawful possession of fire arms.
