Former Iganga Chairman George Patrick Bageya dies in accident

Grief has gripped Busoga as they mourn one of their most known personalities, George Patrick Bageya is dead. Bageya died on Tuesday evening while he was being rushed to Iganga hospital after being involved in a motor accident Motor accident along Iganga kaliro highway at a place called Nabitovu.

Samson Lubega, South East Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the death saying the accident was a head on collision involving Bageya’s vehicle and a Lorry Isuzu Elf.

Lubega says a yet unidentified number of people were seriously injured, including the late Bageya’s son whom he was travelling with.

Bageya was the LC5 chairman of Iganga and one of the vocal figures in Busoga region. He used to popularly refer to himself as the President of Iganga. Bageya who also represented Iganga in the Constituency Assembly recently served as Resident District Commissioner for Busia before retiring to farming and business. He also attracted public attention when he became bornb again and even established a church at one of his homes.

By the time of his death, Bageya had just been appointed to serve as a Commissioner on the Uganda Amnesty Commission.
