Buganda wants Museveni to discuss federal with Lukiiko

It seems the federal talks between Buganda kingdom and the central government is not a foregone issue after all. Sources at the Buganda establishment have informed us that the kingdom has now asked the president to finalize the federal talk with the Buganda lukiiko.

The sources say that the Buganda premier, john Baptist Walusimbi has written to president Museveni requesting him to revisit the federal talks but this time involving all people in Buganda lukiiko instead of the selected few as it has been the case in the past.

Sources say that Buganda wants the federal talk concluded once and for all. Buganda Kingdom and the central government have been pulling ropes over the Kingdom’s demand for federal system of government, while the Museveni government insists regions should form regional tiers made up of districts instead of a bigger federal organ with set out powers.

The sources say that even if the members of the lukiiko accept the regional tier system of governance the kingdom will go by that because the lukiiko is the supreme organ of the kingdom.
