Police and CMI probe people cutting internet fiber optic cables

The police’s investigation department of CID is working hand in hand with the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) to hunt down people who have made it a habit to cut fiber optic network wires in different parts of the country causing interruptions in network communications.

Sources at CMI and police have informed us that the investigations have started after MTN and UTL recently informed the president that their services have been interrupted so much by criminals cutting down cables.

The detectives are running their probe on two paradigms. One that competing telecommunication companies could be the ones hiring thugs to carry out malicious damage on fibre optic around the country or it is an act by terrorists.

The detectives are also investigating why it is largely MTN which has been the most affected by these acts of malicious damage on fibre optic cables.

The sources in security say that they have got some clues and any time the people behind this malicious damage could be nabbed.

The security agencies say the cutting of fibre optic is also posing a big threat on the country’s security as the signalers (communication) use the same fibre optics.
